According to the latest Thomas Cook Holiday Report*, holidaymakers are now returning to Egypt, after staying away in the wake of terror attacks and political instability.
The report reveals that package holiday bookings to Egypt are up 89% year-on-year and that visitor numbers to the Red Sea are now close to where they were in 2015: although centred entirely on Hurghada and Marsa Alam.
The FCO currently advise against travel to several areas of Egypt and against all but essential travel by air to or from Sharm el Sheikh (after a flight from Sharm el Sheikh to St Petersburg crashed in North Sinai in 2015). This advice does not apply to the resort itself, only to air travel to and from its airport.
Take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy before you set off.
Avoid crowded places and gatherings, including in or around religious sites and during religious festivals, when terrorist groups have sometimes called for attacks.
