Don’t forget to buy travel insurance when you book your holiday
Travel insurance doesn’t just cover the cost of emergencies while you’re away on holiday, it can also protect you before you set off.
The Association of British Insurers (ABTA) says, “If you fall ill or lose your job and are unable to travel, the resulting cancellation fees should be covered by your travel insurance. For this reason, it is important that you purchase insurance at the time of booking - as you can never predict when you might need to cancel. Check to see what financial level of cover your policy provides and what type of cover it offers.”
Bear in mind too that if you buy a travel insurance policy that covers natural disasters at the same time as booking your holiday, you won’t lose out if disaster strikes your destination and you can’t get there. The same applies if one of your travel or accommodation providers goes out of business. Make sure you get the right travel insurance cover to protect against this when you book your break.
